ACT NOW: Stop the Cuts to Legal Aid in Ontario

Published on June 17, 2019

The Ontario government has slashed funding to Legal Aid Ontario by 30 percent. The province also directed that no provincial money could be used to cover immigration and refugee law.

By cutting overall funding by one third, lowering the income threshold to access services, and eliminating Legal Aid Ontario’s ability to advocate on cases involving immigration or refugees the government has ensured that many of the province’s most vulnerable people will be left without proper representation in court. While Ford claims that this measure will save money, it will add costs and delays to an already overburdened court system.

Ford has just announced a new Attorney General, MPP Doug Downey. Now is a critical moment for us to stand up for access to justice for everyone in Ontario.

Please fill out the form below to send a message to Premier Doug Ford, Attorney General Doug Downey, and your local MPP to demand the funding cuts to Legal Aid Ontario be reversed.
