MPP Jessica Bell and MPP Suze Morrison's statement on hate crime and vandalism at Masjid Toronto

Published on August 18, 2020

Toronto — Suze Morrison, MPP for Toronto Centre, and Jessica Bell, MPP for UniversityRosedale, released the following statement condemning the sixth attack on Masjid Toronto in the last three months:

“Everyone deserves to feel safe to attend their places of worship and practice their faith. It is deeply concerning to hear about the racist graffiti and damage inflicted on Masjid Toronto’s locations, and the frightening rate with which these incidents have occurred.

We stand with the Muslim community in downtown Toronto during this difficult time. As a community, we must call out these hate crimes and threats against the Muslim community. We can and must work collectively against Islamophobia.

We join the Muslim Association of Canada in calling on the Toronto Police to provide adequate protection to Masjid Toronto Mosques, and to conduct a thorough investigation of these acts of hate.”
