Government of Ontario

Save Wasaga Beach

Despite committing to expanding provincial parks during this year’s early Ontario election, the Ford government is planning to sell off the majority of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park’s beachfront lands.

Wasaga Beach is home to both endangered species and coastal dune systems that protect the shoreline. Experts are warning that this proposal not only threatens our environment – but that it also sets a dangerous precedent.

To allow the sale of Wasaga Beach, the government is amending the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act to make it easier for them to sell off our provincial parklands across the province.

You can find a print copy of the petition below here.

  • WHEREAS The Ford government is currently planning to sell the majority - 60% - of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park’s beachfront lands to developers;

  • WHEREAS Wasaga Beach is home to both endangered species and coastal dune systems that protect the shoreline;

  • WHEREAS the Ford government is amending the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act to make it easier to sell off other provincial parklands without environmental assessments or consultation, across the province;

WE, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:

  • Immediately stop the sale of the majority of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park’s beachfront lands.

  • Leave the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act unchanged.

  • Preserve and maintain provincial parklands across Ontario for future generations.
