Stop the cuts: Fund our schools now!
Email text:
Dear Minister Calandra,
I am calling on you and the Ministry of Education to reverse the $900 million dollars in cuts to our public education system, included in the 2026 Ontario budget and scheduled for the next three years.
Across Ontario, under your government schools have been left with $6.3 billion less in funding - adjusted for inflation - than they received in 2018.
In Toronto, the provincially appointed TDSB Supervisor, Rohit Gupta, has scrapped the previous class size cap, and opened the door to ultra-large class sizes in Grades 4 to 8 for the next school year. Alongside this, the TDSB has announced that hundreds of members of staff will lose their jobs - mainly teachers - due to a lack of funding.
When class sizes go up, student learning and support goes down. In overcrowded classrooms, children get less attention from their teacher. Bullying, violence, and disruptive behaviour increase. And when less caring adults are in our schools, all of these issues are on track to get worse, not better.
This is not what public education should look like. We need to reverse the $900 million in cuts to public education now.
Yours sincerely,
[Your name]

Dear parents,
I am inviting you to join me in calling on the Ministry of Education to reverse the $900 million dollars in cuts to our public education system - including the TDSB, as part of the 2026 Ontario budget and scheduled for the next three years.
Across Ontario, the provincial government has left schools with $6.3 billion less in funding - adjusted for inflation - than they received in 2018.
Here close to home in Toronto, the TDSB Supervisor, Rohit Gupta, has scrapped the previous class size cap, and opened the door to ultra-large class sizes for our kids in Grades 4 to 8 for the next school year. The TDSB has announced that hundreds of members of staff will lose their jobs - mainly teachers - due to a lack of funding. This will leave our kids with less staff in their classrooms, and without the crucial support their learning needs.
As parents, we know that when class sizes go up, our kids' learning is impacted. In overcrowded classrooms, our children get less attention from their teacher. Bullying, violence, and disruptive behaviour increase, leaving everyone at risk.
This is not what public education for our children should look like. Together, we can contact the Minister of Education, and ask the provincial government to reverse the $900 million in cuts to public education - our kids' public education.
I look forward to discussing this with you,
