The Ontario Legislature makes decisions that impact the education of our children. These decisions range from school board governance, to setting class sizes, writing curriculum, and building maintenance.    

I welcome opportunities to meet with principals, school staff and parent councils to provide an update on what is happening at Queen’s Park and how the legislature is affecting our school community, answer questions, listen to parents’ ideas and concerns, and provide opportunities to work together to improve our kids’ education.

Teachers are welcome to invite me to their classroom to engage students in discussions about government, citizenship, civic engagement, and political inquiry. Students will have the opportunity to learn how decisions are made at Queen's Park, explore how public policy affects their daily lives, ask questions about current issues, and share their ideas for improving their communities. 

These interactive visits support Ontario curriculum expectations related to active citizenship, democratic participation, critical thinking, and community involvement. I most often visit Grade 5 and Grade 10 classes, but I am happy to tailor presentations for students of all ages.

If students are engaged in classroom discussions on issues that matter to them that can be addressed at the provincial legislature, they can write me a letter to share their views and I will do my best to respond in a timely way. I can schedule a class visit to brief them on the issue, get feedback from them, and answer questions. Letters can be emailed to [email protected] , dropped off or mailed to:

As MPP, it is my job to bring issues that matter to University-Rosedale before the Ontario Legislature. One way I can do this is by formally presenting petitions.

Petitions make a case for why an issue is important and request the government to make a change. Guidelines for petitioning the government of Ontario are available here. Students can develop a petition on any provincial issue and collect signatures at the school. I can present the petition in the legislature and put a video of the presentation online for the class to share their advocacy. 

My Queen’s Park staff would be happy to assist with developing or researching a petition. We can also review wording of draft petitions before signatures are collected, to ensure that requirements are met for presentation to the Legislative Assembly.   

My office can provide Ontario flags and pins for special school occasions, or to help you recognize a special visitor to your school. We offer three different versions of pins: the Ontario flag, the Ontario crest, and the Trillium. 

Volunteering for an elected representative is a great way to help students complete their 40 hours of community service. The experience can provide students with insights into future career options and empower them to get more involved in politics and decision-making. There are many MPP activities organized by my office that require volunteer assistance, from preparing for special events to accompanying the MPP on community visits.

I would be honored to attend your school’s graduation to recognize and congratulate graduating students at your school on behalf of Queen’s Park.   

We are able to provide an award to a student of the school’s choosing. We typically give out the Agnes McPhail Award, along with a gift certificate to a local bookstore. Agnes McPhail was Canada’s first female politician.

If you have a small group of students, or are visiting Queen’s Park as an individual, my office can provide passes to view Question Period from the Members’ Gallery on the floor of the Legislature.  

Apply to Model Parliament 

The High School Model Parliament program at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario is designed for civic-minded Ontario students in grades 10 to 12, who are interested in current events and provincial issues.  

This unique experience brings together students from across the province for a three-day Model Parliament Program in Toronto.  

Students will have the opportunity to play the role of a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) and learn how parliament works through a series of workshops and presentations. They will meet key figures in Ontario’s Parliament as they forge new friendships with like-minded students.

Each year my office intends to recognize the remarkable contributions of constituents and community groups residing or working in University-Rosedale and who have demonstrated exceptional leadership to improve the lives of others.  

If there is a student, staff member or group at your school who is inspiring others through their efforts to improve your school or the community, please nominate them for an award.
