NDP calls for transit pay-system reform

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario NDP Transit critic Jessica Bell released this statement in response to the Ontario Auditor General’s report on Metrolinx:

“Liberal and Conservative governments have spent 14 years and $2 billion to implement PRESTO, and the messy result is an outdated, costly system riddled with failures.

Riders are still being fined upwards of $400 because their PRESTO card stopped working. Commuters still can’t use their debit or credit card to pay for fares, as was promised, and many transit agencies are being forced to run two-fare systems because PRESTO remains unable to collect certain fares. People deserve better."
