Approve the construction of 59 modular homes for the homeless

Published on February 12, 2022

Last year, the City of Toronto asked the Ford government to fast-track approval for a supportive housing project in Willowdale. But that approval never came, leaving families waiting in shelters or on the streets as the 59 modular homes sit empty in a nearby TTC parking lot waiting to be assembled on 175 Cummer Ave.

These modular homes are part of the City’s initiative to construct inexpensive housing quickly on city-owned property in neighbourhoods across the city, to help find permanent housing for people experiencing homelessness. While Doug Ford has approved other City of Toronto requests to fast-track affordable housing projects in downtown neighbourhoods, he has refused to sign an approval to allow these homes in Willowdale. It is not a coincidence that Willowdale is the riding of Conservative MPP Stan Cho who has publicly requested the government deny the project.

Add your name to my sign-on letter calling on Premier Doug Ford, the Minister of Housing Steve Clark, and Willowdale MPP Stanley Cho to say yes to 59 safe homes at 175 Cummer Ave.
