Are you a renter who wants to better understand Above Guideline Increases (AGIs) and how to challenge them?
You're invited to a virtual townhall to learn how to challenge AGIs, hear from experts, and connect with other tenants.
Date: Tuesday, June 24
Time: 7:00 – 8:00 PM
Location: Online - RSVP here
I'll be hosting the townhall, alongside special guests:
- Alex Venuto, Ontario Renters for Fair Housing & High Park Tenants’ Association
- A lawyer from the Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario (ACTO)
This event will cover:
- How AGIs work — and how landlords are using them to raise rents
- Your legal rights under the Residential Tenancies Act
- Practical strategies for challenging AGIs and organizing with other tenants
- Breakout discussions to ask questions, share experiences, and plan next steps
Over the past decade, AGI applications in Ontario have surged by 250%, affecting more than 200,000 households. These increases are often poorly understood and improperly applied — and many renters are never told when they’re supposed to expire.
Whether you're dealing with an AGI now or want to be prepared for the future, this townhall is an opportunity to get informed and take action. The event is free and open to all renters.
